The Storm Chasers quieted the Sounds for a ninth time in 11 meetings to improve to 41-34 and increase their lead to 1 1/2 games over Memphis in the American Conference North Division.
Lance Zawadzki smashed a two-run home run in the second to put the Chasers ahead 2-0 and extend his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest for any Omaha hitter this season.
Caleb Gindl's lead off long ball in the fifth trimmed the lead to one before the Sounds tied the game in the next inning on a two-out RBI hit by Edwin Maysonet.
Vin Mazzaro, making his first start for Omaha since returning from three turns in the big leagues with Kansas City, notched the win to improve to 4-0 after allowing two runs on six hits over six frames while walking two and striking out six. Blake Johnson spun three scoreless innings to preserve the victory and earn his first save at the Triple-A level.
Clark opened the game-changing frame against Josh Butler with his third long ball of the season and Aviles belted his fifth two outs later. Maysonet committed an error on a Kila Ka'aihue ground ball that allowed another run to score and spelled the end of the night for Butler. The final run of the inning came in on a base hit by Lorenzo Cain, who has knocked in six runs in the series against his former team.
The nine-game road trip wraps up Friday night with Omaha right-hander Kevin Pucetas taking the mound against Nashville southpaw Chase Wright.
