New team name to be unveiled November 15

The Omaha Royals will unveil the results of their Name the Team contest during an event on Monday, November 15 at 5:00 pm at Embassy Suites – LaVista.

The new team name will be one of the following nine, chosen by fans who had a chance to vote on the Royals’ website recently for their favorite:

  • Cattlemen: Presumably a tribute to people across the state who raise cattle.
  • Commanders: A tribute to the military personnel in the area.
  • Force: Just a cool name?
  • Hailstorm: A reference to the stormy nature of the area.
  • Omahogs: Omaha had a minor league team named the Omahogs that played in the late 1800s in the Western Association and Western League.
  • Royals: The current team name remains on the table.
  • Sodbusters: A tribute to the farmers of the area.
  • Storm Chasers: Another weather reference.
  • Windwalkers: Seems to have something to do with ranching and/or expeditions.
In addition to announcing the new team name, the team will also unveil the new mascot, logos and uniforms at the event. Food, games for kids, face painting and clowns will be available.
The event is open to the public. If you would like to attend, you must RSVP by November 5 to Kay Besta or Lois Biggs at 402.734.2550 or rsvp@oroyals.com.
